[In-Person Only] Yoga 1 Beginner Course


Yoga 1 Course (English)
The Yoga 1 Course is a five-class program offered at Sivananda Centers around the world, designed to help you learn the fundamentals of yoga. Classes are held in small groups, allowing the instructor to carefully observe each student and guide the practice at a comfortable, safe pace. In addition to improving your postures, you will learn important precautions and contraindications so you can practice safely at home.

Course Fee
General: ¥15,000 / Members: ¥12,500
To become a Sivananda Yoga Japan member: additional ¥5,500
What is the Yoga 1 Course?
A five-session small-group course where you can learn the fundamentals of Sivananda Yoga. You will progressively learn proper postures, breathing techniques, and relaxation at a gentle pace. The course also covers key safety points for building a safe home practice.
You will learn:

Basic postures (9 of the traditional 12)

Breathing techniques and relaxation

A lecture on the “Five Points of Yoga”
This course offers a careful, authentic experience of yoga—not just physical exercise, but a practice that benefits both body and mind.
◎ Held once a week to help you build a steady yoga habit.
◎ If you’d like to try yoga more casually first, we recommend our Open House “Beginner Class.”
Yoga 1 Curriculum

Mantras (before and after class)

Lecture: The “Five Points of Yoga”

Breathing techniques (abdominal, complete breath, alternate-nostril breathing)

Relaxation (Savasana)

Exercises (eyes, neck, legs)

Sun Salutation

Nine basic postures (such as Shoulderstand, Fish, Cobra, Triangle, etc.)

This curriculum provides a well-balanced introduction to the foundations of yoga.
