— Commemorating the 100th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vishnudevananda —
In a world currently facing turmoil and ongoing conflict, what can each of us do?
The great Yoga master, Swami Vishnudevananda, dedicated his entire life to a “Mission of Peace.” His teachings continue to live on within us today.
“Peace begins from within.”
This program aims to help participants heal inner conflicts and past grievances, fostering a self that does not sow seeds of discord in the future. We welcome Swami Sitaramananda, a direct disciple of our founder, to join us in Tokyo and Hiroshima as we offer prayers for peace together.
■ What is “Peace”?
Peace flows from the “Source” that is you.
When we hear the term “World Peace,” it may feel like something happening in a distant land. However, the Yogic approach to peace is deeply personal and incredibly powerful.
-
Find Peace Within, Not Without Through meditation and Yoga, as we journey deep inside ourselves, we discover a “silent place” that remains unshakable, regardless of external circumstances.
-
“Individual Peace” is the First Step to “World Peace” When one person’s heart becomes calm, the ripple effect spreads to those around them. Your own state of peace is, in itself, the greatest contribution you can make to the world.
-
Unity in Diversity Though our races and perspectives may differ, we are all connected at the root of existence. Peace is born from a heart that acknowledges differences while cherishing the “One Life” that flows beneath them all.

■ About Swami Vishnudevananda
“The ‘Flying Swami’ who dedicated his life to World Peace”
Founder of the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres and a primary disciple of the 20th-century Yoga master Swami Sivananda. In 1957, carrying his master’s instruction to “spread Yoga to the West and the world,” he traveled from India to North America.
-
Laying the Foundation of Modern Yoga He synthesized complex ancient Yogic wisdom into the “5 Points of Yoga” (Proper Exercise, Proper Breathing, Proper Relaxation, Proper Diet, Positive Thinking and Meditation), making it accessible for modern practitioners. This established the Sivananda Yoga style cherished globally today.
-
The Peace Mission Believing that “Inner peace is the first step toward world peace,” he personally piloted a small plane over the Berlin Wall and various conflict zones, dropping flowers and messages of peace from the sky. Known as the “Flying Swami,” his passionate actions gave courage and hope to people worldwide.
-
Marking the 100th Anniversary With the 100th anniversary of his birth approaching in 2027, this program features his direct disciple, Swami Sitaramananda, who will share his “Vision for Peace” adapted for our modern era.
